Jessica Shaw Hyland
Jessica Hyland lives and creates in Des Moines, Iowa, alongside her two children, many urban chickens, and a very large, red Maine Coon. Hyland has honed her approach to art and technique through decades of experimentation, iterating her art and mixed-media collage technique, along with her personal evolution. Hyland has a mind that strives to put the pieces together—this translates literally into her work. Growing up and then putting roots down squarely in the Midwest influences her art both in practice and subject matter, giving her the patience and exposure to nature that impacts her artistic output. Her travels in the U.S. and abroad, have given her imagination license to play.
Hyland’s work “Ginko Cowgirl” was selected as part of the Polk County Heritage Gallery’s juried show, Iowa Exhibited 2025. In 2024, Hyland’s work was included in Issue #44 of Create Magazine, a carefully curated publication, featuring selected national and international artists.
